- No, it's not that simple.
-
- White book MPEG Video discs use CDXA format MPEG-1 bitstreams as tracks
- on the disc. They appear like audio tracks when you examine a CD, except,
- of course, they aren't. Track 1 looks like a standard ISO-9660 track, but
- even that is somewhat strange (the CDXA tracks appear as 'virtual' files
- inside the track. Strange indeed). Official WhiteBook disks also have to
- have CD-i executable code contained (otherwise it won't work on a CD-i.
- No big deal if it's for your own use, but required if you want to publish
- as an official white-book title). This code is licencable from Philips.
- Note this is for /real/ white-book, not just the old Philips proprietary
- VideoCD format!!!!
-
- The format is not the same as the .MPG format for file-based MPEG streams
- (as you'd find on the internet), and I've not seen anything except
- highly-priced PC mastering software that will covert from that to White
- Book.
-
- It's a real pity that the old C= FMV card for the CD32 didn't play .MPG
- files (in fact, I don't think it could. We spent a fair amount of time
- doing low-level programming on it - the only way we could see to get it
- to play .MPG files was by rewriting the firmware on the card!). The
- quality of that unit is better than any other FMV card I've seen on any
- system....
